Hi and welcome. :) Here is where I post recipes, stories and the focus is always on education and on ways to improve the
health and vitality of your life. 50+
years ago, when we grew crops, they were organic. There weren’t rampant
pesticides to worry about until later. These
chemicals, along with all the ones we breath in daily and put on our skin,
become part of the ‘body burden’. These
toxins are stored in fat cells and can disrupt our hormones and cause cancer
and other illness. Land was crop rotated so that minerals could be restored
that one plant took, where another plant provided. Genius! Land was also ‘rested’ in between crops. While it is vital to eat organically, to
avoid toxins, with Factory Farming methods compromising our soil (erosion/mineral
depletion) this means that the same
spinach, the same tomato, the same eggplant today is vastly different in
nutritional value than their counterparts decades ago. So while it is a fact that organic produce is
higher in nutritional value than non-organic produce, our bodies struggle to
get enough of every mineral and vitamin necessary. Supplementation can help however,
firstly the body doesn’t like incomplete sources, it wants whole food
sources. There are many nutrients we are
still learning about, still discovering!
Secondly, the vitamins taken must be plant based in order for the body
to recognize and assimilate them. Most
vitamins on the market are chemically made or made from rocks or shells and the
body really doesn’t know what to do with that.
A plant does, however! If you
take iron and shave it into a capsule, our body cannot assimilate it. But if you put those same shavings into the
soil, en voila, the plant absorbs it into iron that the body can utilize. Fascinating!
So as even the best supplements are not ‘complete’ the best way to get
what you need is though juicing and living foods, such as sprouts, wheat grass,
barley grass and of course rolling up your sleeves, nurturing your own organic
soil and raising your own crops!
Part of what I do as a Holistic Health and Lifestyle Counsellor is help others with ways to incorporate a more
plant based diet into their lives and be less meat centric which, even if you
eat only organic meats, is still not sustainable for our planet or healthy for
us at the rate most of us imbibe currently. Everyone lives differently and baby
steps can be taken! I espouse a diet
where meat is eaten 2 days per week (or best not at all) with the remainder vegetarian with a focus
on fresh greens and sprouts. I work
with clients to help them discover the best ways to get greens into their diet,
be that through a Miessence green tonic, fantastic for those who travel or work
long hours, or through incorporating the easiest tools for growing sprouts and
wheatgrass at home for pennies a day. 1
lb of seeds creates 10lbs of produce!
And its delicious! For your next meal, think green and hug yourself!
